Rare: Creatures of the Photo Ark
Join National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore as he travels to Madagascar to photograph creatures found nowhere else on the planet and add them to his Photo Ark, a 25-year effort to document the approximately 12,000 species living in the world’s zoos and wildlife sanctuaries. His goal is the rare and acrobatic Decken’s sifaka, known for jumping between razor-sharp pinnacles while clearing 100-foot canyons in its stone forest home.

Chun-Wei’s passion is telling stories about our changing planet. Whether he’s after the last few northern white rhinos left on the planet, seeking out the world’s rarest gorilla, or even showing how the humble oyster can prevent our homes from flooding, his goal is to make science entertaining and relevant to wide audiences. His stints at National Geographic Television & Film cemented his love for both the known and unknown, and his travels around the world have shown him that the planet is smaller than we think it is and it needs us more than ever.
