There are over 4,000 species of native bees in North America, many of which are in decline due to factors such as urbanization and habitat destruction. Their plight is overshadowed by the invasive but agriculturally significant honeybees. “Save the Bee” campaigns have grown in popularity, but they focus on domesticated honey bees while the native bees so critical to our ecosystems also need our attention. Brooke McDonough, Filmmaker

Passionate about telling stories through multimedia to engage people with the natural world and inspire action, McDonough is a conservation photographer, filmmaker, and writer. She is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association and Women Photojournalists of Washington. Brooke earned a master’s degree in new media photojournalism at GWU’s Corcoran School of Arts and Design in May 2020.
