Red Wolf in Time Out

Eleven-year-old Calliope narrates the history of the American Red Wolf and what led to its near extinction. The Red Wolf got a bad reputation by being confused with coyotes and other wolf species that were “scarier,” depicted in fairy tales as “big bad wolves,” so that they were hunted to near extinction. Eventually they were put in protected habitats— “time out” –- to protect their dwindling numbers. She advocates for freeing the Red Wolf from these habitats and protecting them so they can live in the wild.
