The Detectorists
An ecologist and his two German Pointers search the rivers and wetlands of rural Wales for signs of one of the UK’s most elusive and endangered animals, the otter. With development threatening their fragile habitats, proving their presence is vital—but spotting them is nearly impossible. The ecologist’s innovative approach relies on his dogs’ scent detection to guide placement of camera traps. Shot from a dog’s-eye view with immersive cinematography, the film follows the team through misty riverbanks and dew-soaked fields, offering a poetic glimpse into the dedication, instinct, and quiet work of conservation.
